Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are your safety & sanitation standards?
Smiley Daisy colonic centre utilizes the FDA and TGA-registered Class II medical device which has 2 type of filters to purify the water before entering one's body. It also has pressure and temperature sensors. We use sterile disposable single-use rectal tubes for every customer at every session. System is disinfected with hospital grade chemical after every use.

2. Are colonics / colon hydrotherapy safe?
Yes. They are very safe as the water is introduced at a low gravitational flow which is 40 times less pressure than a normal house hold tape. The device is regulated by both FDA and TGA. Therapist is trained and certified by I-ACT. (International Association for Colon Hydrotherapy)

3. Is it suitable for me? Can i do it?
Colonic is suitable for most individuals above 16 yrs old. However, it is not suitable for pregnant woman, unless you are in their 2nd trimester and has had colonic before pregnancy. People who has long term chronic diseases may also not be suitable, please check the list of conditions Click here.

4. Will colonic be messy or smelly ?
Not at all. There is no mess or odour because there is a built-in internal exhaust fan that extracts out the smell from the drain pipe out to the exterior of the building. The built in shower sprayer right next to the system will also allow a thorough cleanse to the personal area after the session ends.

5. Is it embarrassing?
Not at all. You are taken care of in a private room with a towel covered over your lower body at all times. You are responsible for inserting the rectal tube yourself while the therapist leaves the room at the beginning for you to get ready. This instruction will be given clearly and demonstrated whilst fully clothed by the therapist at your first session.

6. Is colon hydrotherapy painful ?
Most of the clients will not feel pain during the session. However, if you have a full impacted colon, some cramping may occur as the colon naturally contracts to expel out the waste. This is well tolerated by the general population. Once the first major impaction of fecal matter is expelled, you will find the session pleasant.

7. What should I do before a session?
Try to have your meal 2 hours before the session and have a sports drink or electrolyte drink if possible. (no harm if you don't). Empty your bladder at start of colonic at our centre. However, you may still want to urinate during the colonic, and that is absolutely fine, as the system is designed ergonomically for this as well.

8. How much time is required for a session?
Every customer is booked for 1 hour per session. This includes about 10 minute of preparation and dressing up afterwards. The actual procedure itself can take between 40 to 50 minutes, as each individual human body reaction rate to the water is different, hence some people take longer to finish the same amount of water per session.

9. Can I go to work straight after having a colonic?
Yes, after having a colonic, you will feel more refreshed and light. You have just being going to the toilet like usual just for a longer time that's all. So there is nothing that will affect your daily routine.

10. Can colonics be habit-forming?
No. Having a colonic is like going to the gym for your colon. Your colon has to do the work for pushing out the water and the loosened fecal matter. The more colonics you have, the stronger your colon can become, as it improves the peristaltic movement of the colon wall. Also the fact that no chemical besides purified water is used, hence no habit forming will occour.

11. Can I have colon hydrotherapy during my period?
Yes, it is perfectly safe just like you would normally going to a toilet. You may wear a tampon during those heavier days for hygienic reasons.

12. Will laxatives accomplish the same results?
No. Laxatives are an irritant to the body. Therefore, the body produces a thin, watery substance that goes through the colon and leaves behind impacted waste and toxins. Laxatives can easily become habit forming to the body system, and most individuals experience abdominal pain after taking laxatives.

13. What is the difference between enema and colonic?
Colon hydrotherapy is different to Enema. An enema may involve the use of chemicals and can only clear a small section of the lower part of the colon, while having to go against nature to hold the water in for several minutes. You are also in an awkward position while administering enema to yourself. With colon hydrotherapy, you are not going against nature. The purified water at body temperature is slowly infused through your rectum by a thin sterilized disposable rectal tube while you are also evacuating the contents from your colon at will. (Refer to Procedure and System page for detailed description) A colonic system in the hands of a trained therapist can administer the equivalent of six to eight bags of enema in one hour without undue discomfort or effort from the person receiving the colonic. The efficiency of a colonic is 85% greater than an enema, and can cleanse the entire colon, rather than just the lower part of colon.

14. What are the signs of a unhealthy colon?
Common signs are constipation, coated tongue, bad breath, dark under eye circles, brittle nails and hair, pot belly, indigestion, bloating and frequent gas, painful or difficult passing of stools, dark colored hard and very smelly stools that doesnˇ¦t float in water.

15. How does Colon Hydrotherapy promote good health?
A healthy colon is essential to a healthy body. For those who have normal bowel movement, there is still waste in the colon which is not completely discharged. Especially for people who suffer from irregular bowel movement or constipation, Colon Hydrotherapy helps the removal of waste, stops the accumulation of toxin and encourages the large intestine to carry out its natural peristaltic action, thus promoting a clean and healthy body.

16. Why do we need Colon Hydrotherapy if there are other eliminative organs to do the job?
The colon is a major organ supplementing other eliminative organs and the lymphatic system. It also has the strongest defense against harmful bacteria. A clean colon through Colon Hydrotherapy ensures the early removal of toxins and wastes from the body before they are reabsorbed into the blood stream.

17. What is the difference between Diarrhea and Colon Hydrotherapy?
Diarrhea is generally caused by the body's natural reaction against toxic bacteria (e.g. food poisoning) as large quantities of water and electrolytes are released from the lining of the colon in order to discharge large quantities of waste. Water loss if not replaced will lead to dehydration. Diarrhea can also be chemically induced as a means to clean the colon, usually prior to Colonoscopy procedures.
Colon Hydrotherapy on the other hand utilizes pure water (sanitized and free from chemical and bacteria) to soften the waste and allow the body to naturally discharge it through bowel movement. It avoids the use of chemicals to irritate the intestines and instead re-hydrate the colon to encourage regular discharge.

18. How many sessions are recommended?
This very much depends on the individual health status, and diet. However, if you are a meat eater who is always feeling bloated and has constipation problems, 1-2 session per week is recommended for the first 5 weeks. Then one session every 2 weeks as a maintenance sessions will be beneficial.

19. How come my doctor never told me about Colon Hydrotherapy?
Doctors are generally trained to treat specific illnesses by chemical based medication. Colon Hydrotherapy belongs to the natural methods category and is only performed by trained and certified therapist.

20. What will happen to other good bacteria in the colon? Will I lose bacteria balance after the treatment?
Medical research shows that one-third of the one hundred and sixty different bacteria found in the bowel are harmful to the body. They carry high toxic products that generate disease and should be removed frequently. Some may worry that friendly bacteria may be drained during the Colon Hydrotherapy session. In order to replenish these bacteria, bifidus (healthy bacteria that usually populates the colon) can be taken as a health supplement regularly.
